Autism Coaching Team

 

The team consists of CCS Autism Specialists, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Exceptional Children teachers and parents. Over the last 5 years, the team has developed a strategic plan to develop awareness and ensure the implementation of evidence-based practices with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the full continuum of services. We are dedicated to improving the educational outcomes and prepare students to compete, connect and succeed in an increasing connected world.

The strategic plan included professional development on a variety of topics for a variety of stakeholders including principals, general education and special education teachers and related service providers. A grant provided funding for state and national speakers in on social thinking, augmentative communication systems, social skill programs, sensory processing and evidence-based practices. A resource library was created to provide resources for the teachers on a wide variety of academic and functional needs for the students on the Spectrum. Transition from school to post-graduate plans and resources were also developed and shared at professional development.

For the school year 2015-16, our focus on professional development will be on the evidence-based practices including behavior analysis Image of Autism Serving Students Logois and verbal therapy, academic assessment and program monitoring to assure positive academic and functional outcomes for our students, mentoring for teachers by teachers and IEP development and implementation.
